Built in 1985 and extensively refurbished during the winter of 1998, the modern Hotel Hipocampo Playa has a total of 206 guest rooms, including 185 double rooms and a further 21 singles, which are built over 6 floors, and set amidst spacious Mediterranean style gardens and sun terraces, around a large central pool area overlooking the sea.

All guest rooms at the hotel are either air conditioned or centrally heated according to the season and come equipped with a fully fitted "en suite" bathroom with shower and hairdryer, along with a direct dial telephone, satellite television, mini-bar, safety deposit box available for rental, double-glazed windows, and either a terrace or balcony, many of which have exterior views over the garden and pool area towards the sea. In addition to the above features, a maid service is also provided undertaking a change of towels as required and change of bed linen twice a week.

Guest facilities on offer includes a 24 hour reception area with currency exchange services, and both luggage and courtesy rooms for late departures, along with a games room, public internet terminals, an air conditioned buffet style restaurant and snack bar, offering a choice of traditional Spanish, international and vegetarian menus, laundry and medical services, and both lounge and pool bars.

Sporting and leisure facilities available to guests includes a large outdoor freshwater swimming pool for adults, with a separate children's section, and spacious sun terraces and gardens which are furnished with loungers and parasols. Other leisure facilities include a smaller indoor heated pool with cardiovascular gymnasium, sauna and Jacuzzi, along with a children's playground and mini club, a mini-golf course, and both pool and table tennis tables.

The Hotel Hipocampo Playa also provides a seasonal programme of daytime sporting activities, organised each day by their resident animation team, featuring boules, water polo and aerobics, as well as evening entertainment with a children's mini disco which is then followed by either live music, cabaret or other professional shows several times each week.
